Ecommerce Loyalty Program Software in 2026: Smile.io vs LoyaltyLion vs Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals vs Rivo vs Marsello

Compare five loyalty platforms by points, VIP tiers, redemption, retail integration, customer identity, and order-based pricing.

A loyalty program becomes an operating system for promises made to customers. Points must be earned correctly, balances must survive returns, and rewards must work at the moment someone tries to use them. An attractive widget is only one part of that system. The retailer also needs rules, customer identity, support procedures, and a way to understand whether the program is worth its cost.

Ecommerce loyalty software manages repeat-customer rewards, redemption, and sometimes VIP tiers or physical-store participation. Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals, Rivo, and Marsello serve different combinations of simplicity, customization, and channel coverage. The reader’s decision here is maintaining an ongoing customer reward relationship, rather than buying only an acquisition referral campaign.

Official product and pricing pages were checked on October 14, 2026. This documentation-based comparison does not claim implementation tests, conversion gains, or guaranteed retention. Prices are current published starting examples; order counts, additional stores, optional modules, messaging, taxes, and contract terms can change the actual bill.

Compare the reward and redemption workflow

Platform Best fit Main strength Meaningful tradeoff
Smile.io Shopify brands starting a points program Clear progression from simple rewards to richer programs VIP features and integrations depend on tier
LoyaltyLion Brands connecting loyalty to customer messaging Program rules and tiered customer engagement Advanced scope and order volume need a quote
Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals Teams wanting broader loyalty engagement options Points, redemption, and CRM connections Starting subscription is not a high-volume program quote
Rivo Shopify teams seeking customized customer experiences Loyalty with a developer-oriented expansion path Cashback, accounts, and loyalty are different purchase scopes
Marsello Retailers connecting stores and ecommerce POS-linked loyalty and customer segmentation Sites, currency, and marketing add-ons affect cost

Smile.io

Smile.io presents a progression from points and referrals to more embedded loyalty and VIP features. Its current Shopify-oriented pricing page offers a Free plan for 200 monthly orders. Essential is $15 monthly with 500 orders and one integration, while Standard is $79 monthly with 1,000 orders and two integrations. This makes the initial program scope relatively easy to describe.

Growth is $199 monthly with 2,500 orders and adds a VIP program and more embedded loyalty. Plus is listed at $999 per month with annual billing and a larger order allowance. The low entry price should therefore be evaluated against the specific reward types, integrations, and customer experience the brand intends to launch.

Strength: a clear staged path for a Shopify points program. Limitation: the required feature can determine the tier before order volume does. Best fit: brands wanting to start with understandable earning and redemption rules. Ask a support teammate to explain a customer’s balance and reward eligibility from the proposed interface before adding more complicated tiers or promotional events.

LoyaltyLion

LoyaltyLion combines earning rules, rewards, customer tiers, and messaging connections. Its current Classic package lists a branded loyalty page, pre-built earning rules, a Klaviyo integration with ready-to-use flows, and onboarding support. That makes it worth considering when loyalty events need to drive a coordinated customer communication process rather than remain inside a storefront widget.

The published Classic example is $199 per month including 500 monthly orders. Advanced and Plus use custom pricing. The comparison table places dynamic VIP tiers as an optional Classic add-on and includes them on higher packages. Checkout redemption is identified as a Shopify Plus capability. Confirm both the vendor plan and the underlying commerce-plan requirement.

Strength: loyalty rules connected to customer engagement. Limitation: volume, tier functionality, and storefront requirements can change the quote. Best fit: brands with a defined communication owner and a reason to differentiate customer tiers. Evaluate a customer moving between tiers after a return, and request the exact rule for when that status changes.

Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals

Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals offers a Free package with basic points campaigns and referrals, then a Pro package with additional earning and redemption options, CRM integrations, and more on-site engagement. Its page also describes fraud-prevention and reward-liability features. These are relevant discussion points for teams whose program is becoming more operationally demanding.

The current Pro starting subscription is $199 per month, but the pricing page uses monthly order volume and a payment breakdown. Treat that amount as a starting subscription, not a quote for every order count. Other Yotpo products have separate scopes; a loyalty purchase should not silently assume that all review or customer-content functionality is included.

Strength: a wider set of program engagement and integration options. Limitation: the product family and usage-based configuration require a careful proposal. Best fit: teams ready to define several earning paths and own their support consequences. Ask how order cancellation, suspected abuse, and manual reward corrections are handled before expanding beyond a straightforward purchase-points program.

Rivo

Rivo targets Shopify customer experiences with loyalty, referrals, and a developer toolkit. Its current pricing page also promotes separate Cashback and Personalized Shopping offers. Those should not be treated as interchangeable labels for a basic loyalty plan: store credit, customer accounts, points, and memberships can create different implementation and support requirements.

The current visible offer lists Cashback from $199 per month and Personalized Shopping from $499, while a bundle including Loyalty is custom-priced. The page’s raw comparison also contains older Scale and Plus labels that are not presented in the same visible buying path. This guide therefore treats a new loyalty configuration as quote-based. Confirm the named package, order-volume allowance, and included products in writing.

Strength: an expansion path for brands needing technical customization. Limitation: scope and pricing are easy to mix across the newer offers and loyalty comparison. Best fit: Shopify teams with developer or agency support for the customer experience. Ask which APIs, storefront components, and account features are available in the proposed package, and who will maintain custom behavior after launch.

Marsello

Marsello connects loyalty with POS and ecommerce environments. Its current Launch plan includes a points program, customer portal, wallet passes, RFM segmentation, and basic loyalty automations. Accelerate adds capabilities including VIP tiers, advanced reward conditions, points expiry, and API access. This is a useful shortlist when physical-store transactions must participate in the same customer program as online purchases.

The published comparison starts Launch at $60 USD per month per site and Accelerate at $120 USD per month per site. It separately lists NZD prices of $100 and $200, including GST. Additional sites or connections add cost, and marketing options such as SMS are separate. Lightspeed users are directed to custom pricing.

Strength: cross-channel retail loyalty with customer segmentation. Limitation: site counts, POS specifics, and marketing add-ons complicate a simple monthly comparison. Best fit: retailers who can map their stores and online connections precisely. Demonstrate one customer earning in store, redeeming online, and returning an item before accepting that the proposed integration covers the complete relationship.

Design the program before buying the interface

Write the earning and redemption rules in ordinary language first. Define what qualifies, when points become available, how returns affect balances, and which offers may be combined. Have the customer-support team explain the rules to someone unfamiliar with the program. If that explanation is confusing, adding software will make the confusion more visible rather than resolve it.

Evaluate the customer identity model next. An email change, a guest checkout, a duplicate account, or a different address used in store can affect the apparent balance. Ask how the team identifies the same person and what an authorized correction looks like. Preserve a record of imported balances and agree how old rewards will be honored during migration.

Estimate costs with ordinary and peak months. Include all order volume that the vendor counts, rather than assuming only enrolled members matter. Add the reward itself, storefront work, staff support, integrations, and messaging. A program that attracts repeat purchases may still need different economics for discounted products or unusually generous rewards; validate that with your own margin assumptions.

Use the surrounding systems deliberately. Your ecommerce platform supplies the order and checkout context. Your returns management workflow supplies events that may reverse or adjust rewards. Demonstrate those handoffs together instead of approving a loyalty demo that only shows a successful new purchase.

  • Define points, redemption, return adjustments, and tier transitions.
  • Confirm storefront and POS prerequisites for the desired experience.
  • Test customer identity changes and imported balances.
  • Price peak order volumes, sites, integrations, and messaging.
  • Assign manual corrections, dispute handling, and program ownership.
  • Request balance and activity exports before committing.

Choose Smile.io for a staged Shopify program, LoyaltyLion for rule-driven customer engagement, Yotpo for broader earning and redemption options, Rivo for a customized Shopify experience, or Marsello for connected retail channels. The best choice lets customers use the rewards they were promised and gives staff a dependable way to explain the result.
