A map showing vehicles is useful only if the operations team can act on what it sees. Fleet telematics connects location, driver activity, vehicle diagnostics, and alerts to decisions about dispatch, service, and the working day. The purchase includes a physical installation and a service relationship, so comparing dashboards alone misses much of the operating cost.

Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Geotab, and Azuga each connect vehicle information to fleet work, with different platform and commercial approaches. This comparison uses official pages checked October 15, 2026. It does not claim road testing, independently measured fuel savings, or verification that a particular configuration satisfies every transport regulation.

The central decision is collecting and using vehicle telemetry. Our field service management guide covers customer jobs and technician visits. Our CMMS comparison focuses on work orders and equipment maintenance. A telematics platform may connect to those systems, but a vehicle location record has a different operating purpose.

Compare the connected vehicle workflow

Product Best fit Main strength Meaningful tradeoff
Samsara Several connected fleet functions Telematics within a broad operations platform Hardware and module scope need a quote
Motive Driver and fleet operations together Location, safety, and operational context Regional and package requirements need checking
Verizon Connect Dispatch visibility and vehicle history Fleet location and daily management tools Device and service terms affect the contract
Geotab Connected data and integrations Expandable fleet data environment Installation and solution ownership need definition
Azuga Tracking with driver participation Driver scoring, rewards, and tiered options Higher service scope and optional features add complexity

Samsara

Samsara’s telematics offering connects GPS location, diagnostics, routing, dispatch, and fuel information within its Connected Operations Platform. Its wider product set includes cameras, equipment, and workforce workflows. This breadth is relevant when dispatch, safety, and maintenance teams need different views of the same operating fleet.

The advantage is keeping vehicle context available across those responsibilities. The limitation is that a broad platform can obscure what the proposed subscription actually contains. Ask for a demonstration of a vehicle fault arriving during an active route: who receives it, what dispatch can see, and how someone records the follow-up. A fault alert without an accountable next step adds another queue.

The pricing page begins a fleet-size inquiry rather than publishing a universal rate. Obtain a quote naming gateways, installation, connectivity, cameras, routing, driver applications, retention, support, and the contract term. Do not treat the product page’s complete capability list as one included package. Samsara fits fleets that intend to coordinate several operating teams and can maintain a clear responsibility for each alert and workflow.

Motive

Motive presents fleet management alongside driver safety, location tracking, maintenance, and other fleet operations. Its published workflow connects vehicle information with driver and manager activity. That makes it a relevant shortlist when the organization wants the driver-facing experience considered alongside the manager’s control panel.

The strength is evaluating the vehicle and the work around it together. The tradeoff is assuming that one product name implies the same hardware, compliance functions, and commercial scope in every market. Ask the vendor to show the proposed driver application and installed device for your specific vehicle classes. Include a driver change, an interrupted connection, and a manager correcting an assignment in the demonstration.

Motive’s pricing URL currently leads to a sales inquiry; a standard public per-vehicle rate is not provided there. Request separate scope for tracking, safety cameras, regulatory workflows where relevant, installation, subscriptions, and any financial products. Confirm service geography and renewal conditions. Motive suits fleets seeking a joined-up driver and operations workflow, provided the demonstration and quote use the exact regional product configuration being purchased.

Verizon Connect

Verizon Connect’s fleet tracking offering emphasizes vehicle visibility, mapping, vehicle history, alerts, and operational reporting. The broader product family includes cameras, asset tracking, mobile applications, and integrations. It is worth considering when dispatchers need to answer where a vehicle is, where it has been, and which exception needs attention.

The benefit is a daily operational view that can support customer updates and manager follow-through. The limitation is treating a dot on the map as a complete service explanation. Evaluate an ordinary working day with stops, idle periods, changed assignments, and a vehicle used by more than one person. Confirm how history and driver association are recorded in your proposed configuration.

The reviewed product page offers a tailored inquiry rather than a complete public subscription tariff. Request device, installation, connectivity, feature, replacement, minimum-term, and cancellation details together. Ask which services remain chargeable if a vehicle is sold or temporarily unused. Verizon Connect fits organizations prioritizing routine dispatch visibility and reporting, with a buyer who can compare the full service commitment instead of only an advertised monthly amount.

Geotab

Geotab describes an expandable environment for productivity, safety, fleet optimization, and electric-vehicle information. Its official solution page includes routing and dispatch, reports, data connectors, vehicle maintenance, and integration options. This breadth is useful when fleet data must also support analysts or another operating system.

The advantage is an approach that treats the vehicle record as part of a wider data environment. The limitation is responsibility across the proposed device, installation, partner, and integration arrangement. Establish who diagnoses missing data and who owns the support case when a vehicle signal appears in one place but not the downstream system.

The reviewed page asks buyers to get pricing rather than displaying a universal tariff. Obtain a solution-specific quote covering devices, selected services, installation, data access, support, and integration costs. Confirm vehicle compatibility and geographic availability rather than inferring them from the global product catalog. Geotab fits fleets that value expandability and have an owner for the resulting data connections. Include an export and a downstream reporting example in the buying evaluation.

Azuga

Azuga combines GPS tracking with a driver-facing approach to scores, rewards, and coaching. Its published tiers distinguish core tracking from additional safety, efficiency, and service features. That is relevant when driver participation is a practical adoption concern rather than an afterthought to the installation.

The strength is making the conversation about driving behavior visible to the driver as well as management. The limitation is that a score requires context and a clear correction process. Ask how a driver reviews an event, how managers handle a disputed assignment, and which coaching features the proposed tier includes. Do not assume software scores predict a specific reduction in incidents or insurance cost.

The live pricing page lists BasicFleet at $25, SafeFleet at $30, and CompleteFleet at $35 per vehicle per month. Confirm currency, contract duration, device and installation terms, optional equipment, and renewal charges in the quote; the headline figures do not resolve all of those conditions. Azuga suits fleets that want a tracking program with an explicit driver engagement routine and a clearly selected service tier.

Evaluate an exception from vehicle to manager

Begin with a vehicle list that includes models, years, powertrains, usual routes, operating countries, and installation constraints. Ask each vendor to identify the device or approved connection for that list. A demonstration using a different vehicle class is insufficient evidence that your diagnostics and installation needs are covered.

Run a small, agreed evaluation around ordinary work. Check one route change, a late arrival, an idle-time alert, a driver reassignment, and a temporary coverage gap. Record the timestamps and the people responsible for acting. Measure whether the proposed workflow lets the dispatcher make the required decision; avoid using vendor case-study savings as your own business forecast.

Set access and retention expectations before rollout. Drivers and managers should understand what information is collected, when it is reviewed, and how errors are corrected. Confirm the applicable employment, privacy, and transport requirements with the people responsible for those policies. Product availability is not proof that every configuration meets the organization’s obligations.

  • Verify device compatibility, installation downtime, and replacement support.
  • Map each alert to a person, response, and closure record.
  • Check coverage gaps, delayed uploads, and vehicle-driver association.
  • Quote the full term, hardware, connectivity, modules, and exit costs.
  • Inspect exports, integrations, access controls, and retention settings.

Consider Samsara for coordination across several fleet functions, Motive for connected driver and operations work, and Verizon Connect for everyday dispatch visibility. Shortlist Geotab for an expandable data environment and Azuga for driver participation with visible tier choices. Choose the service whose hardware, information, and support process match the fleet you actually operate.
